A few years ago, I was working on a blog post and it seemed like every day I received a new notification from Cloudflares SSL certification service.
Every time I clicked on it, it would prompt me to confirm the certificate was valid.
As I did so, I kept reading the documentation.
“I’ve been told it is valid!”
“It’s just a warning.”
Eventually, I realized I was not seeing all of the benefits I was getting from the certificate.
It wasn’t giving me the ability to secure a website, or to set up SSL certificates on a website that didn’t require the certificate at all.
I had a feeling the certificate service was a bit of a joke.
And that’s when I started thinking about how to get one.
I thought that would be a simple task, and maybe even an easy one.
After all, there were no known certifications for Cloudflashes SSL.
So, I set out to get my own.
Unfortunately, that’s not the case.
Even though there are many different certifications, there is not a universal standard.
There are a handful of certifications available, but they’re not always available in the official documentation.
In order to get the certificates you need, you need to visit the official website, sign up for a free account, and set up your own certificate.
Let’s walk through the process.
First things first, you’ll need to install the most basic certificate you can find.
In fact, if you don’t already have one, I highly recommend that you do so.
You can get a free certificate from CloudFlares.com for your site.
Here are the steps for the most popular certificate providers: First, download the Cloudflaves SSL Certificate installer.
This is an extremely basic installer.
You will need to have a free trial to try it out.
If you don’ want to use a free plan, you can always buy a full-featured certificate, which is much more expensive.
I recommend you go for the free certificate.
Second, download and install the CloudFlights HTTPS Certificate Assistant, which will automatically download the most recent CloudFlashes SSL certificate.
After installing, you will need the Cloud Flares Certificate Assistant to set it up.
This will open up a new window where you can click on the Certificate Assistant tab and then click on “Set up a certificate.”
This will allow you to choose which certificate to install, and to set a password.
When you have selected the correct certificate, you should be prompted to enter your credentials.
You should see a new tab appear where you’ll have to enter all of your email and other details.
You’ll be prompted for your certificate’s certificate name.
You might see some error messages in the console when you’re trying to do this.
When the Certificate Manager tab opens, you’re ready to go.
If all goes well, you might see a page like the one below.
Next, we need to add some certificates to the certificate store.
In the Certificate Store, we can add certificates that aren’t currently on the store.
We need to use the certificate manager, and click on Add Certificate in the Certificate manager.
Here, we’ll be asked to choose whether to add a single certificate or a collection of certificates.
Click on Add Certificates.
In this dialog, we’re asked whether we want to add any certificates in the collection.
Select Yes and the list of certificates will be populated.
Next up, we will need a certificate for a specific website.
If we click on Browse Certificate…, we should see an empty certificate store, and if we click Add Certificate, we are prompted for a certificate name to add to the store (we’ll be using this certificate in our next step).
We’ll be adding a certificate named certificate_name.crt to the certificates store.
Click Save Certificate.
When we click Save Certificate, the CertificateManager dialog will open.
We’ll now be prompted with the certificates we’ve added, and the certificate name and certificate number.
If the dialog asks us for the current certificate name, it will say that we’ve specified a name for the certificate, and it will save the certificate in the certificate_store.
Next step is to add another certificate to the CertificateStore.
If a certificate is already in the store, it’ll be automatically updated, so you dont need to click on any of the certificate managers.
Click Add Certificate.
If everything went well, we have a certificate in place that is now part of our certificate store and ready to use.
Now that you have a good certificate, it’s time to set things up for our site.
For our site, we’d like to make sure we can use it on all of our other websites.
To do that, we want a certificate to be included in our SSL certificate store that we can send to all of these sites.
The process is quite straightforward.
First, we open the Certificate Management dialog.
